Amitabh made Rana Daggubati nervous

Tagged Under :

The actor, who was in the city recently, says that his good looks have taken him far

Rana Daggubati is all of three films old, but the actor is happy with the acceptance he’s got both in Tollywood and Bollywood. So much so, that he’s already looking at widening his horizons by venturing into Tamil cinema as well. Ask Rana about his USP and he quips with a grin, “It’s got to be my looks. It’s the way God has designed me.”

The actor, who was in the city recently, was excited to talk about his film Department with Ram Gopal Varma, and another project that the filmmaker has announced with Rana in the lead. According to reports, RGV is so impressed with the actor that he has decided to cast him in the film opposite Nathalia Kaur, even before the completion of Department. “We are still developing the idea of the film that Nathalia and I are going to do,” says Rana. But we have heard that it will be a love story with lots of action.

The actor admits, though, that working with Natty on the Dan Dan… song for Department has made him a fan of the model. “She is fabulous. I have known her for a brief time and she is one of the finest newcomers in recent times. I think Nathalia has the potential to become a big star,” he says. Reports suggest that the duo shared some sizzling chemistry in a recent photo shoot and he adds, “It was a concept shoot for the film and it was done right after Dan Dan… was shot.”

As for Department, the actor says that sharing screen space with Amitabh Bachchan made him nervous. “I was very nervous when Amitabh and I were in the same frame,” he says. Meanwhile, his Tamil debut with director Selvaraghavan will take off later in the year, after he wraps up Department and a Telugu film with director Krish.

As the conversation veers towards his love life, Rana maintains he’s single at the moment. “I am waiting for the right woman to come by,” he says.

‘I knew about Bipasha’s visit’ How does he then explain Bipasha Basu’s (his rumoured ex) presence at his birthday bash? “I was celebrating my birthday in Hyderabad after a long time. Bipasha came on a planned visit and everyone knew she was coming. The media was surprised though,” laughs Rana. So does that mean that Bipasha praising his six-pack look for a new film is just friendly banter? “Bipasha is one of my very good friends and one of my first friends in Mumbai. There’s nothing more to it,” he says.

Television actors to shout Halla Bol

Tagged Under :

Last year, the Rajasthan Royals had a bevy of stars cheering for their team. Besides the owners Shilpa Shetty Kundra and Raj Kundra, there were celebs like Shamita Shetty, Arbaaz Khan, Malaika Arora Khan, Neha Dhupia and Jackky Bhagnani, to name a few, dotting the RR stands.

But this year, the gorgeous co-owner of Rajasthan Royals is likely to miss the Twenty20 matches due to her pregnancy.

Shilpa, who was always seen cheering her team from the stands during the previous editions of the cash-rich cricket league, has been advised by her doctors to take rest at home and travel less.

To compensate for her absence, the Royals are planning to rope in popular faces from the small screen. “Going by the love that the aam junta has for TV serials, we have decided to bring in telly stars, who hail from Rajasthan,” said a source from the Rajasthan Royals team. Raghu Iyer, CEO, Rajasthan Royals, said, “You can’t replace Shilpa Shetty, but she might just surprise you by being here for a couple of matches. The fact that she is pregnant hasn’t taken away the enthusiasm. However, there are a lot of television stars from Rajasthan and we are planning to do something with them.”

Though the team officials refused to divulge more details of who is going to be part of the team, we learned from reliable sources that the few names who would be part of the RR brigade will be Nandish Sandhu, Ila Arun, Karanvir Bohra, among others.

The team, which was in Jaipur recently for the pre-preparation camp of the IPL, looked all geared up to face the challenges in season 5 of IPL that starts from April 4. Raghu said, “With new players coming in, there is great excitement. Sreesanth is a new addition and he is not only a fantastic cricketer, but a great entertainer as well. Plus, Rahul Dravid’s complete commitment and involvement with the team is the prime reason for the enthusiasm and growing bonding in the team.”

Crisis in Karnataka BJP, Yeddyurappa revolts

Tagged Under :

BANGALORE: The DV Sadananda Gowda-led BJP government in Karnataka was on the brink of a crisis with BS Yeddyurappa shepherding 55 loyalist-MLAs to a resort in the outskirts of the city late on Sunday, setting a 48-hour deadline for the party high command to reinstate him as chief minister.

With a dozen ministers among his supporters and half of the state MPs backing him, the victory sign Yeddyurappa flashed as he left for the resort showed his determination. But an unfazed Sadananda Gowda told reporters in Tumkur: “The issue of change in leadership is left to the central party leadership and I will present the budget on March 21. A copy of the budget is already in press.”

Yeddyurappa, who has backtracked after threatening a revolt many times, has chosen to make it clear that he means business this time. Playing the numbers game, he said 15 more MLAs would join him on Monday morning.

He is backed by Lingayat strongman and minister Jagadish Shettar and ministers C M Udasi, Basavaraj Bommai, Shobha Karandlaje and V Somanna among others. What if the high command turns down his demand? “Wait for 48 hours. Everything will be settled,” said a beaming Yeddyurappa.

A report from New Delhi quoted party sources as saying that the BJP may concede both Rajya Sabha seats it can win in the March 30 biennial election to Yeddyurappa nominees to buy peace.

The BJP has 120 MLAs including the Speaker, in the 224-member assembly.

The developments have raised questions about the budget session, which is scheduled to begin on March 20. Yeddyurappa’s supporters gave enough indication about their intentions of walking out of the party if the situation warranted.

“The party high command had promised to reinstate him as CM after he came clean in the mining case. Now that the high court has quashed the FIR against him, he should be made the CM. The party bosses should convene the legislature party meeting within 24 hours and get him elected as the leader,” declared Udasi.

As per the plan, the MLAs will stay in the resort until the party high command makes its stand clear on Yeddyurappa’s reinstatement. They will boycott the budget session if the situation demands. “This is a do or die battle,” declared former minister Hartal Halappa.

Earlier, municipal administration minister Balachandra Jarkiholi, who is identified with the anti-Yeddyurappa camp, announced that a group of 20 MLAs were contemplating resignation, fed up with the party’s internal bickering.

“Some MLAs, about 20 in number, are unhappy with the affairs of the party. I have held discussions with them. If the leadership crisis continues, we are all ready to resign,” Jarkiholi told reporters.

The developments overshadowed the 59th birthday celebrations of CM Sadananda Gowda. Besides celebrating his birthday, he sought the blessings of two powerful pontiffs, Sri Shivakumara Swamiji of Siddaganga Mutt and Balagangadharanatha Swamiji of Adi

Chunchanagiri Mutt. Gowda got a shot in the arm, with Balagangadharanatha Swamy backing him. “He is being targeted only because he is a Vokkaliga. The other forces are trying to dethrone a Vokkaliga CM,” he said at a programme in Chikkaballapur district.
