Though Suhel, who is apparently in London, remained unavailable for comment, Bhatt told us, “First of all, Suhel Seth knows me too well and I don’t believe that he could have made the statements. But if what you say is true, then like a Christian spirit, I would say, ‘Forgive my Lord for they do not know what they say and do.’ I have been in this business for 38 years. And now, it is for those who have worked with me, to stand up and defend me.”

Subhash Ghai too, chose to be magnanimous. When contacted, the filmmaker said, “Every citizen has a right to say anything about any person. In this country, one can say anything from worshipping a person, admiring a person to even firing a person. It is your own mind that speaks. God bless Suhel Seth. We have dedicated our entire life to making movies. Our life has been movies. We feel bad when someone abuses our hard work in this manner.”

The short visual piece titled Getting Real With Suhel is produced by Alternation. And though it is still unclear as to who exactly is behind the production, it is evident that the makers are gearing up to make a rather controversial splash in the industry, albeit via the Internet.

Bollywood actor Vidya Balan who’s on a two-day visit to Ernakulum is slated to shoot for an ad campaign for a yet-to-be-launched Kerala-based apparel brand. According to our sources, the shoot will be held at Malayatoor, on the outskirts of Kochi.

Vidya has been a part of many commercial campaigns before, but this could be her first as a brand ambassador. However, the measly 30 lakh that she is rumoured to be getting for this does not match up with the kind of success she’s achieved onscreen.

Says a source, “The endorsement is for a new venture in apparel by a big jewellery brand. Even though Vidya has not really lived in Kerala, she is a Malayali, and that brings in the local connect. She may have also agreed for the same reason. Of course, Vidya is a big name now, and she really deserves more.”

Attempts to elicit a response/comment from the actor were in vain as Vidya is, apparently, on a contract that prevents her from talking to the media till June.

Even in Bollywood there seems to be no logic on how endorsement deals are made. Actors’ remunerations are, mostly, not commensurate with their talent. For example, Katrina Kaif and Deepika Padukone get paid far more than Vidya Balan. Even more frustrating is the fact is if you were to go by the reasoning that an actor’s remuneration should match up to their box office status, Vidya has been shortchanged for all these years.

Take just two recent examples: The Dirty Picture and Kahaani. Both films doubled their investment at the box office, got very decent satellite right prices and even got good revenues from overseas markets. Yet, today, Vidya, called a hero by both her filmmakers, Milan Luthria and Sujoy Ghosh, is still to break into the 2 crore price bracket. Whereas Katrina and Deepika are offered 2.5-3 cr without any negotiation.

Honestly, guys, don’t you think she deserves more?

The whole idea to the conflict in the sequel is a woman, therefore we have two men and only one woman,” says director Milan Luthria, while putting to rest all rumours with respect to a parallel female lead in the much awaited and anticipated sequel to “Once Upon A Time In Mumbai”.

He says, “This franchise (OUATIM) is a very entertaining franchise – we don’t have the usual blood and gore that is associated with the underworld – our world is larger than life and we focus on the underworld that existed during 70s and 80s, and with the sequel, we want to bring back the romantic triangle set in the Mumbai underworld,” adding, “The story connects to the point in the 80s where the underworld was fascinated with the women in Bollywood and the starlets in B-Town too were attracted to smugglers and dons. So we have Akshay Kumar and Imran Khan as the gangsters and Sonakshi Sinha as the starlet.”

So does Sonakshi really plays Mandakini’s role or her character is a take off from the starlet’s life? “There is a lot of fact-meets-fiction in the sequel. In fact there is more of fiction than facts in the second part, but yes, Sonakshi plays the moll,” says Milan. But why Sonakshi? “Because Sonakshi has a very Indian sex appeal. I had met her before “Dabangg” released. I had gone to Salman’s house for dinner and the whole team of “Dabangg” was there – it was at Salman’s place where I saw Sonakshi and was awestruck by her simplicity and grace. A lot of my casting is instinctive and when I saw Sonakshi, I felt she would be well-suited the role of a demure girl, who comes to the city of dreams to make a name for herself,” says the director.

But more than Sona, it is Imran Khan and his role in the sequel that has Milan super excited. “You wait and watch for Imran. I have a feeling that our sequel will do to Imran, what “The Dirty Picture” did to Vidya Balan,” gushes Milan, as he goes on to explain why he thinks Imran fits the bill. “We chose Imran because of his mass appeal. He is extremely popular among young girls and the college going crowd, but with the sequel, he will be seen in an entirely different form. This is exactly what we did with Vidya – we gave her a different colour that was out of her comfort zone.

Imran too will be seen in something that’s in stark contrast to his image. His character has humour, action, witty one-liners and flamboyance, but he plays a typical sadak chhaap gangster with a heart of gold,” shares Milan.

Sonu Sood has always had a fondness for south Indian films. Which is hardly surprising, considering his first film was neither in Hindi nor his native Punjabi, but in Tamil. The actor juggles careers on both sides of the Vindhyas, and has reportedly even used his connections in the south to attempt to give the popular Tamil film song, Appadi Podu, a Hindi twist.

However, with Akshay Kumar all set to use the song for his film Naam Hai Boss, Sonu set his sights on another Telugu track from the film Arya, Aa Ante Amalapuram, for his next Hindi release, Maximum.

“I knew this song was going to be a rage and got the rights from Devi Sri Prasad to remake it in Hindi. It will kind of be the highlight of the film,” says Sonu.

The actor, who is currently filming Shootout at Wadala in Mumbai in which he plays Dawood Ibrahim, is also set for the June releases of his two Telugu films, Julayi and Uu Kodathara? Ulikki Padathara?, and is attached to the Rajinikanth project Rana. However, reports about him walking out of the sequel to the highly successful 2010 film, Dabangg, in which he played Cheddi Singh, still abound.

While Sonu has said that he was not happy with the definition of his character in the Arbaaz Khan-directorial, there were also reports stating that the real reason that Sonu left the project was because he was miffed that his character would be overshadowed by that of Prakash Raj’s.

“No. It’s not about other characters. You know, when I saw what I was supposed to do in the film, somehow I was not able connect with it. It’s a brilliant script and I’m sure Arbaaz will do a great job. But since I’ve done one Dabangg, people will come with a lot of expectations from (my character) Cheddi Singh. It was a mutual call that me and Arbaaz took to skip Dabangg 2 and get into Dabangg 3 when it happens,” explains Sonu.

Well, seeing that Salman has already proclaimed that Chulbul Pandey will be the Commissioner of the Mumbai Police, we wonder how things will pan out for Cheddi Singh.

Will Sonu do another Kannada film, seeing that his debut, the Sudeep-starrer Vishnuvardhana, was one of the biggest hits of 2011? “I’ve got some offers, but I can’t take them up because of my (other) commitments. But I’d love to do a Kannada film. I thoroughly enjoyed shooting for Vishnuvardhana and I hope I still do many more films in Kannada. I love to visit Bangalore, and this would give me a reason to come back again and again,” he signs off.

We witness to shocking posts that appeared on Aryan Vaid’s facebook page on Wednesday, which he claims are not his

Putting your emotions on display happens all the time on facebook. However, this was a bit too much even by those standards. At around 3am on Wednesday, a shocking post appeared on Aryan Vaid’s facebook page which alleged his wife Alexandra Copley, with whom he has apparently had a rocky relationship over the years, is abusing him badly.

The post, read, “My wife Alexandra Copley keeps threatening to kill me in my sleep. And this is not in anger but in cold-blooded words and actions. If anything happens to me, please take this entry on my wall as legal proof that I did mention her threats. Even at this very moment, I see this maniacal look in her eyes. I am afraid to go to sleep… an honest confession. I am an abused husband, caught in an abusive relationship with a toxic woman.”

The post read, “Wish men could complain too. And wish men were taken seriously when they complain. It does not make me a wuss. I am putting it out on a public forum. But how do I deal with this abuse. Can I go to the cops? They will laugh at me if I tell them she is threatening to kill me in cold blood. She has abused every family member/ friend of mine. Wish a man could ask for help, because if she does kill me or attack me whilst I am asleep, I can’t think how I will fight that…”
No sooner was all this posted, four people even indicated they ‘liked’ it. However, a person by the name Ali promptly replied, “Have no time to read this crap. Get a life brother.”

Livid with rage, Vaid shot back, “Strange, I am being asked to get a life by a guy who has time to comment on my facebook update seconds after I posted it. Don’t need your crap and you are no brother of mine. You idiot. The only reason I put it up is there can be some proof. Anyway, don’t read it, and even better, don’t comment. You moron, I don’t need advice from morons anyway.”

By then, not just Ali but many other people had followed suit, posting condescending replies, mainly telling him to grow up and not put up such messages for the world to see.

An enraged Vaid wrote again, “Yes men, you need to stop saying grow up. What happens if she really breaks a flower pot over my head whilst I am sleeping or just slashes my throat. I know the situation and understand it far better. It’s funny how men don’t support men… Grow up really? What does that mean? Live and sleep peacefully next to someone who is saying they will kill you tonight.”

During all this back and forth, one of Vaid’s fans named Rajat Babbar wrote, “Mr Aryan, I think this is not a very serious issue to be revealed in public. There are times when husbands and wives fight but I am sure you have a decent wife. Try to ask her if she is sad or undergoing any kind of hormonal changes due to which she is getting angry. We all love you as an actor and are always there to support you – your fan club member.”

Before we could really get a sense of what was going on, all of a sudden, at around 3.30am, the posts had all but vanished from the page.

When contacted the next day about all the high drama we’d been witness to, Vaid clarified his stand saying, “Please leave me alone. My account has been hacked. I don’t want this story to be published.”
